The use of siding as a finishing material for the facade of a private house is widespread due to the many of its positive qualities. Ease of installation allows you to perform slopes on windows for siding without the involvement of specialists.
What is siding
Siding is a mounting method rather than a material name.
The shape and texture of the siding imitates a traditional wooden board of small width. The basis of modern material is polyvinyl chloride, so all the positive qualities of PVC are inherent in products. Siding has a matte surface that is resistant to direct sunlight.
The color scheme is so diverse that it allows you to choose a solution for any home. The possibility of laminating the surface of vinyl boards makes it possible not to distinguish them from natural wood. At the same time, it is possible to finish the windows with siding by hand.
Positive qualities of siding
Modern vinyl siding is a panel that is mounted with an overlap, thereby providing natural ventilation of the facade, while protecting it from environmental influences. When decorating facades, metal and vinyl battens can be used, while the latter have a lower dead weight and have a minimal load on the wall.
Therefore, the installation of siding around the windows is carried out precisely with the help of vinyl panels, which have the following positive qualities:
- the material of the panels is frost-resistant - it tolerates low temperatures and their differences well;
- moisture resistance of the material reliably protects the facade from moisture. Therefore, window decoration with siding on the outside is a practical choice;
- dirt and dust can be easily washed off the surface of the material with a standard soap solution;
- the material is wear-resistant and durable - it does not lose its operational qualities throughout the entire service life;
- the siding surface has sufficient decorativeness and reliability of the external coating, therefore, does not need to be painted;
- PVC does not decay and is not afraid of corrosion;
- This material is easy to process and install. When working, dust and construction debris are not formed;
- due to their low weight, the panels do not have a significant load on the structure to which they are mounted.
Metal siding has been used for decades. It is not susceptible to corrosion due to the presence of a special polymer coating. A variety of color solutions allows you to choose the material for any facade.
Metal siding is not subject to burning, it does not melt and does not contribute to the spread of fire in a fire. The weight of such panels is much greater than PVC. The cost is also higher, but installing metal siding around the window is more profitable, because metal will last much longer than a PVC analog.
The basement of the building is finished with basement siding, which has increased strength characteristics.
Installation requirements
There are several requirements that are mandatory when installing siding around a window.
- fittings should be made by the same manufacturer as the material itself, then color matching will be achieved and the installation process will be facilitated;
- to avoid gaps between the panels when they are attached, it is recommended to make incisions of 45 degrees on the sides of the panels;
- to avoid the appearance of cracks, it is necessary to qualitatively perform measurements of the window opening;
fasteners should have a galvanized surface, they should enter the panel at an angle of 90 degrees; - when attaching PVC panels, it is necessary to take into account their possible expansion and contraction during temperature differences, therefore, it is necessary to leave a gap between the panels of 1.5 cm.
Subsystem
The duration of operation and the quality of decoration of window openings depends on the quality of components.
Finishing window openings with siding involves the installation of a metal or wooden frame. A wooden frame will be cheaper, and a metal one will be more reliable and durable..
Metal Profile Subsystem
To make slopes from siding on a metal frame, you need to purchase the following materials:
UD-profile - to calculate the required amount, you need to add the perimeter of the window to the perimeter of the wall. For example, if the wall is 4 x 4 meters and the window is 1.5 x 1 m on it, then 4 + 4 + 4 + 4 = 16 m. profile will go to the wall and 1.5 + 1.5 + 1 + 1 = 5 m. will go to the window.
CD profile (stand). When calculating its amount, the surface length must be divided by 0.6, since this element is installed every 60 cm, but this indicator also depends on the type of insulation.
A CD connector is purchased with a building height of more than 3 meters. The number of such elements depends on the number of docking nodes.
CD connector mounting method.
ES bracket. It is used to mount a CD profile. Using the U-shaped bracket, you can build a structure, focusing on the construction level.
With the help of hardware, UD profiles are fastened. They are selected based on the wall material: self-tapping screws are used for aerated concrete and brick, and dowels-screws are used for wood.
To fix metal elements between themselves, they use the flea hardware. |
The frame device is made on the basis of previously made markup.
At this stage, perform waterproofing of the facade. The method of attaching the frame elements is shown in the photo below.
When constructing a metal frame for siding on the wall around its perimeter and around window and door openings, a UD profile is fixed.
Using the UD-profile, a guide strip is mounted, and the siding is fixed to the metal frame using the CD-profile, the step of which depends on the width of the insulation material.
The UD profile makes the structure rigid and fixes the CD profile. You can attach it to the outer wall with the help of a crocodile bracket, which exposes the frame based on the testimony of the building level.
Wood subsystem
Features of the device of the wooden frame when the device slopes on the windows for siding, include the following nuances that you need to know:
To increase the life of the wood, its treatment with various protective compounds is used.
Subsystem Installation
To arrange the opening with siding on a wooden crate, the device of horizontal guides is not required. Vertical guides should be installed in increments based on the width of the insulation material.
The starting strip is attached to the bars.
Near the window openings, the bars are fixed in a horizontal position to provide rigidity. The start profile and other components, as well as the window panel, will be attached to the bars.
Training
How to make slopes on the windows with siding with your own hands will tell you step-by-step instructions.
- Before proceeding to cladding window openings, it is necessary to examine the slopes for cracks in order to prevent weakening of the adhesion of the battens to their surface.
- If there is a crack, then it is recommended to expand it.
- Then putty and let dry.
- After this, the slope must be primed with deep penetration soil.
- Cut corners and profiles at an angle of 45 degrees.
Ways to device slopes from siding
The near-window installation of siding panels can have various features, depending on the depth of the window. The thickness of the wall creates a lathing, insulation and cladding. As a result, the window can be located in a depth of 5 to 19 cm.
The location of the window flush with the wall
This method is used when the window is flush with the wall. In this case, the window opening is sheathed using an L-shaped apron.
First, the window opening is treated with sealant from below, then a strip is nailed onto the dowels. In the same way, the remaining strips are fixed, and the upper one is sealed with an aluminum profile.
It is recommended to install siding with an overlap on the window block to close the gap between its structure and the wall.
Lap
- the dimensions of the J-rails are selected in accordance with the dimensions of the window opening in height and width;
- in accordance with the width of the profile, the upper profile is incised and bent down;
- the side profile is introduced into the upper so that the part that has been bent into it;
- a gap of 3 to 5 mm should be left between the upper and side profiles on all sides;
- the lower profile is inserted, leaving a temperature seam between the side profiles of 3 mm.
Gaps will hide siding.
To the corner
The device is similar to the above method, only there is a need to trim the upper and side profiles below 45 degrees, not forgetting the dimensions of the thermal gap, which must be closed.
Window openings with slopes
When decorating the facade with plastic siding, you can arrange slopes from the same material.
Along the contour of the window opening, sheathed by the siding of the window, the J-profile is installed, into which the casing is planted.
Then, starting strips for plastic lining are installed around the perimeter of the window opening, while observing its strict geometric position.
Using a square, an external starting bar is placed on the surface of the window profile, taking into account the location of the slope finish relative to the profile at 90 degrees. Labels should be connected while checking the perpendicularity of the location of the starting bar. Using the level we connect all the labels.
Focusing on the drawn lines, the side and top sizes are removed.
They cut the starting strips, based on the obtained sizes, cutting their ends at 45 degrees. Set the internal starting strips. Mounting is carried out along the inner perimeter directly to the window frame.
Then measure the distance from the outer bar to the inner one at the top of the opening. The corner is cut at 45 degrees.
Set the corner on the top of the slope.
Plastic fragments are installed in the starting strips.
At the last stage, the ebb is set.
